Happy Friday the 13th!! Today we are getting inspiration from the famous pinup artist Gil Elvgren. Elvgren was an illustrator who worked from the 1930s to the 1970s. He did commercial work for companies like Coca-Cola and General Electric, as well as his better known pinup girls for Brown and Bigelow. One thing we love about Elvgren girls are that they are the sexy and fun girls next door. Check out some of our favorites...

More and more the pinup style is influencing mainstream fashion. Celebrities make it look easy, but in reality, pinup takes work and isn't something that can just be thrown together. It takes attention to detail and knowledge of the styles, makeup and hair of the era. Of course, we think the work is worth it! It can be so much fun and can really set a girl apart from the crowd.

We love seeing stars and designers who embrace pinup and do a fabulous job!

The gorgeous Dita Von Teese is of course the first to come to mind. Talk about attention to detail! This girl is always flawless.

Scarlett Johansson also does the pinup look well, especially in this ad campaign for Dolce & Gabbana.

Katy Perry puts her own fun spin on the pinup look.

Here is Karlie Kloss channeling 40's pinup for Dior's spring 2011 line. Fabulous!

Gwen Stefani is another celebrity who puts her own spin on the classic pinup look. Her hair is always amazing and she is rarely without her signature red lips.

Of course we have to mention Mad Men. Costumes for the show are always spot on and fabulous.

Happy Friday!!! Today we are loving looking at pictures of one of the most famous actresses and pin-ups of all time, Marilyn Monroe!! She has always been such an inspiration to us. She oozed sex appeal and had amazing style but was reportedly a sweetheart who made friends everywhere she went. Hello friends!! Dia de los Muertos was on Wednesday and is another one of our very favorite days. It is a day to pray for, remember, and celebrate lost loved ones. The art and traditions of Day of the Dead are so beautiful and we thought we'd share some of our favorites.

Of course we have to start off with the cover of newly-released Sugar Heart Magazine, which features our lovely Lady. Amazing, right?!

Sugar skulls were traditionally made to represent a departed soul and were placed on alters or gravestones to honor the return of the spirit. They are hand-made and are amazing little works of art.

Check out these fabric sugar skulls we found! Awesome!

We can thank Christian Dior for the gorgeous style of the 1950's. He launched his first collection in 1947. Known as the "New Look," it featured the classic rounded shoulder, tiny waist, and full skirt that we all know and love. After the frugal, plain styles during the war, women were ready for the glamourous new fashion. The influence of Dior's "New Look" can (thankfully!) still be seen today.

The story behind the set…

A lot goes in to the making of one of our fabulous sets.. It all starts with an idea for a theme.

Then I draw up some sketches of my ideas and bounce them off of my staff (Lady).

After that I usually consume as much inspiration as a can based on the current theme, usually so much so that I become complete sick of whatever the theme is after it’s all said and done.

Then the shopping starts, tons of it… Our big themes, take a lot of shopping and planning for the end result. Then usually about 40 hours of editing the combined images. In the end it all pays off when I am able to capture amazing images. I hope that you enjoy my labor of love... The Let them eat cake theme shoot. Stunning images to follow soon!

Hey guys!

This weekend we had a blast at the APBF Benefit Concert! We teamed up with Celia from Pinup Posies to represent Pinups For Pitbulls!

We got to meet so many wonderful people, including Shorty from Animal Planet's Pit Boss and singer/songwriter John Shipe!

It was so much fun and we were able to raise money and awareness for this wonderful cause!

Today marks the beginning of our month hiatus from work. We will come back to the studio in August all jacked up on creativity and ready to rock!

Sugar Heart Submissions

Hey guys!

Sugar Heart Magazine is currently accepting submissions for our first issue!

We've received a lot of questions about the process and hopefully we can answer them here!

Sugar Heart is an alternative magazine for those who love pinups, burlesque, vintage art and design, pulp literature, rockabilly, photography, tattoos and the good old days. Thus, submissions should be in line with those interests.

We are looking for models, artists, writers, bloggers, designers and anyone else who has something they would like featured.

Photo submissions for models must be taken and edited by a professional photographer. You must sign a release form and have the permission of the photographer and don't forget to give credit where credit is due (model's name, photographer's name and hair/makeup artist name).

This week was our mermaid themed photo shoot but before we transformed our lovely ladies into sea goddesses, we experimented on ourselves!

Think of it as a dress rehearsal.

We built the set and spent several hours testing various makeup techniques to get the look we were going for. Photographer extraordinaire Tabatha also designed and handmade the mermaid costumes, which were stunning! We took a few test shots and the Photoshop fairy worked her magic to make them extra fabulous!

I can't wait to see all the CherryBlossom's mermaids!!

$140.00 set, hair, make up 15 images retouched, 2 of your choice airbrushed to pinup perfection. Photo CD with all 15 images. 40.00 deposit due to hold your spot.

We are having a pinup contest the winner will get a free one look pinup shoot.

Rules: You must be nominated by someone.
So if you have a friend that is special and deserves a day of pampering Nominate her. Guys what a great way to get your honey a photo shoot by telling us all the great things she does.

Please send TWO photos and why you think your special girl deserves a day of pinup pampering.

Well Frist of all , I want to thank all the beautiful girls that I get to photograph! Thanks girls with out you I would not be able to do what I live and breath to do!

Taylor! For those of you that have shot with me recently you have meet my right arm! Taylor you really do make my work better, you know what I like and you get it done. The person that gets the most thanks is my husband. He builds, paints and designs most of our sets. Every thing he does is behind the scenes and does not get enough credit for an amazing job! Hello Loves!! A new update on what has been going on here at the Studio. Today we got some new props in that Tabatha ordered a few weeks ago. We have a lovely Victorian Chase and a fabulous new rug! We also are re-doing the studio! We moved some things around and are going to be painting again soon! We are so excited for everyone to come back and see the changes we have made. We still have spots that can be filled for August so make sure you book your spots early ;) We also have a few Pinups for Pitbulls calendar submissions we are doing so check out http://pinupsforpitbulls.com/ to pre-order a copy, all proceeds go towards helping a rescue!

Hello! Wow! We are already in JULY. Just wanted to update on what has been going on here at CherryBlossoms Studio! Tabatha, your favorite photographer, has been at it again. Super busy and always thinking of new ways to keep a smiling face on our fantastic clients. The lemonade themed shoot went really well and she took a lot of great photos! We will be doing another themed shoot soon and I will post more details as we piece the puzzle together, so keep an eye out. We hope everyone had a safe and fun 4Th of July. The new Mini Shoots have been doing well and they are a lot of fun!! We are now doing Mini Shoot Parties as well! This is something for our ladies who loves spending time with the girls! We are looking forward to starting this new project and cant wait to hear every ones thoughts and opinions about it! I am going to start updating our blog every chance I get to keep our lovely ladies informed on what we are doing and what is new! Thanks again to all the beautiful faces we get to see everyday and we hope to see each of you again!
